OSHA and You

OSHA was created under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which was signed into law in late 1970 by President Nixon. OSHA was set up by the Act with the intention of bringing government oversee of basic safety and health standards throughout businesses operating in the United States.

Since its founding, OSHA has drastically changed the way business is conducted in the United States. Below are just a few of the safety regulations affected by the administration:

• Guards on moving parts. Virtually every machine with moving parts now has guards at the points of contact to protect workers operating said machinery.
• Permissible exposure limits for chemicals and dusts protect employees from working in dangerous conditions.
• Protective equipment. OSHA expanded the mandatory use of protective gear such as goggles, face masks, ear protection, etc.
