Officials in El Paso have stated that they will be investigating wage theft claims that violate the Texas Penal Code.
The state Senator, County attorney, district attorney and police officials will all be involved in the investigation. In industries such as construction, it has been reported that one in five workers are experiencing wage theft, which leaves them unable to provide for their families.
A new bill was passed in order to combat this issue. The Senate Bill 1024 will make it less difficult for law enforcement officials to prosecute employers that are guilty of wage theft. This new law went into effect on Sept. 1, 2011 and police officials are now ready to investigate employers in order to protect Texas workers.
